Thank a Teacher If You Can Read This — and Maybe Win $1,000 From Crayola

Break out the crayons.

Crayola has launched a student art contest that’ll award $1,000 to 10 lucky winners, in addition to money and goodies for their schools and favorite teachers.

The contest centers around getting students to show their appreciation for teachers. From now through August 25, students can enter the contest by uploading photos of their best handmade teacher thank-you notes.

There are a few stipulations though. Those darling drawings from your second grader won’t make the cut for this contest. Students must be at least 13 years old to enter.

Participants must have their parents’ permission to enter if they’re under 18. They’ll also need permission from the teacher they choose to thank. (Do teachers check their emails during summer break?)

If your kids can check off those boxes — plus abide by the other official rules — then they’re good to let their creativity run wild.

Speaking of creativity, the contest judges will be looking for a spark in the thank-you notes along with artwork that shows originality, inspiration, discovery and superior image quality. The submissions will undergo two rounds of critiques before judges select the winners.

The 10 contest winners will receive $1,000 in the form of a prepaid debit card, but they won’t be the only ones to benefit from their show of teacher appreciation. The teacher they thank also will win a $1,000 gift card, and so will the teacher’s school. The school will also get a $10,000 check for a classroom makeover, a year’s supply of Crayola products and the opportunity to participate in Crayola’s professional-development program.

One grand-prize-winning thank-you note, chosen from among the 10 contest winners, will be featured on a box of Crayola crayons.

If your kids aren’t artistically inclined, there’s still a chance for them to win some money. Crayola is running a sweepstakes in conjunction with the art contest.

To enter the sweepstakes, students have to nominate a teacher to thank, but they don’t have to create a special thank-you note. Winners will get a $500 gift card for themselves and one for their nominated teacher.

Crayola will select five sweepstakes winners each week through the end of the contest period. The first round of sweepstakes winners will be selected on or around July 10.
